Installation

  1. System Requirements:
    • Prior to installation, please be sure that all computers you wish to connect meet the system requirements for Verizon FiOS Internet service.
    • If you're currently using the PC you wish to use with FiOS, and you're accessing the Web through Microsoft® Internet Explorer, you can check your PC here to determine if it meets our system requirements.
    • If you wish to check the system requirements of multiple computers, you can access a comprehensive list here.
    • If you’re a Mac user, you’ll need to manually check your computer using these requirements.
  2. Before Your Appointment:
    • Shortly before your scheduled installation date, FiOS installers will come to your business location to install a fiber connection to your premises. Prior to this work being performed, Verizon will contact you.
    • Fiber-optic cabling should already be strung throughout the telephone poles in your area. If your area is served by underground facilities, digging may be required to run fiber to your business location.
    • You don’t need to be on the premises during the part of the installation that takes place outdoors.
  3. Scheduling and Logistics:
    • Upon completion of your order, you’ll select an installation date and time that works best for you. Extreme weather conditions may alter this date.
    • Please set aside at least four hours for FiOS Internet installation. More complex installation (such as installing multiple computers) can take up to six hours.
    • An adult (18 years of age or older) must be present at the time of installation.
  4. Fiber to the Premises:
    • An Optical Network Terminal (ONT) will be mounted on the side of your building, usually in the same location where other utilities enter your office (e.g., telephone service).
    • Fiber cabling from an adjacent telephone pole will be run to the ONT on the side of your building.
    • In most cases, an existing utility entry can be utilized to connect the ONT to the wiring throughout your building. However, it may be necessary to drill a hole for the ONT connection.
    • With your installation of FiOS Internet, your voice services will be provisioned over the same fiber cabling. Verizon will install a battery unit to supply backup power for standard voice service (but not other voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) services), including E-911, for up to eight hours. You are responsible for periodically replacing the battery. A power outlet should be available nearby for the battery backup.
  5. On-premises Wiring:
    • On the date of your installation, a FiOS technician will visually inspect the areas affected by installation and let you know if any furniture needs to moved.
    • The technician will verify that the highest-quality signal is being outputted from your ONT.
    • The technician will then connect the ONT to the existing coaxial cabling in your office and verify a strong signal throughout the system.
  6. Computer Setup:
    • The technician will connect the appropriate cabling from the coaxial outlet to your router in a location of your choice. A router allows you to connect any number of computers wirelessly (when used with optional wireless adapters) or up to four computers via the wired ports. Please note there's an additional fee of $99.00 for each router.
    • If you wish to have the FiOS technician connect more than one computer to your FiOS Internet service, there will be an additional fee of $75.00 each.
    • If the installation of a wall jack is necessary, it may require a limited amount of drilling.
